Canelo Alvarez appears determined to sue DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions although the federal lawsuit filed needs revisions. The Mexican pug is holding his ground against the two groups, a surprise development for boxing fans who have been following the career of Alvarez.

The only problem now is that the lawsuit was thrown out earlier this month due to technicalities. However, the issue is far from settled. The camp of Alvarez was given two weeks to make the necessary changes and file the case again.

However, that could depend on how alleged dialogues go. An unnamed source bared that all three camps are currently holding discussions, likely a way to resolve the current row according to a report from Boxingscene. But the key thing here is that all are communicating, meaning there is a chance that this whole mess could be resolved amicably.

“If they’re talking that is a good thing. It is certainly better than if they weren’t talking,” the unnamed source said.

Alvarez has been out of action since November last year. He has already faced Rocky Fielding, Daniel Jacobs and Sergey Kovalev. A fourth fight has yet to happen and it appears this is where the issue originates.

DAZN wants Alvarez to face Golovkin but a trilogy is far from happening. Golden Boy pitched Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders as alternatives. The problem here is that DAZN is only willing to pay a portion of the $40 million license fee of Alvarez if he faces someone not of their liking. And obviously, it is GGG they want, likely because it will be a huge draw.

Such enraged Alvarez, saying that DAZN has no say in whoever he wants to fight. He adds that it was Golden Boy who gave them that right, something he was not informed of. Hence, the result is the Mexican seeking $280 million in damages and more. That includes the remainder of his contract and a judicial determination that he is eligible to participate in bouts arranged and promoted by entities other than Golden Boy Promotions and broadcast by entities other than DAZN.

So unless the said discussions end peacefully, expect Alvarez and company to file the amended lawsuit soon. Though there are names of possible opponents, one pug waiting in the wings is Avni Yildirim. The WBC wants both fighters to clash for the vacant super-middleweight title but the boxing body postponed the purse bid until Oct. 6.
