..Manchester United is looking at all options as the transfer deadline nears. Though talks of a Jadon Sancho deal remains in the air, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly nearing a deal to bring Alex Telles to Old Trafford from FC Porto.
United has reportedly made an initial bid for the 27-year-old left-back, a move that makes sense. Telles can be signed without a fee due to pre-contract in January. His contract expired this summer and the Red Devils are confident that a $15 million offer for the Brazilian player would be sufficient, the Guardian reported.
Porto is seeking roughly $23 million for Telles. Though there is an approximate $8 million difference, the Dragons are likely to take up the offer unless some other club offers something better. With the transfer deadline set for Oct. 5, United has the inside track. Porto could use the proceeds of the sale seeing the club is in no better financial shape than other teams right now.
But aside from Telles, it appears United has not given up the chase for Sancho. Though Borussia Dortmund claims that the English football player will remain at Signal Iduna Park, the Red Devils remain confident that a transfer is coming.
Solskjaer had a talk with Sancho and told him that a blockbuster transfer is happening, Dagbladet reported. It will be recalled that Dortmund gave United until Aug. 10 to make an offer for Sancho but nothing was pitched. With the deadline lapsing, Der BVB made it clear that no move involving Sancho is happening. However, that does not appear to be what the Red Devils have in mind.
Also, it is worth noting that Sancho appeared ready to play the rest of the season with Dortmund. He said that the media is to blame for the whole transfer rumors surrounding him. Rather than dwell on those, the 20-year-old prefers to keep his focus on football. However, he did not hide the fact that getting all the attention and being valued so much is flattering.
"I guess it’s a nice feeling to be worth so much, but again, I don’t really look at it that much," Sancho said. "For me, it’s about doing well for my team and doing well for myself as well."
Right now, United has a small window to seal the deal for Sancho. Dortmund is likely to shoot that insinuation down although anything is possible. Der BVB may only heave a sigh of relief once the transfer deadline lapses on Oct. 5.
