The Los Angeles Clippers are searching for a new head coach and there remains no clarity on who Steve Ballmer will pick. There are a lot of top names who can apply for the said post left by Doc Rivers who was fired recently. He is now with the Philadelphia 76ers.

As for the Clippers, there are plenty of names to consider. But it appears there is one familiar name who has jumped the gun in Mike Brown.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the 50-year-old coach was recently interviewed for the Clippers head coaching position according to ESPN sources. Aside from him, the Clippers are also considering Tyronn Lue. The 43-year-old coach served as one of the assistants for Rivers and seeing him take over made a lot of sense.

The only problem with that is Lue is on the radar of several teams. Among the clubs interested in making Lue their next head coach include the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Hence, Brown could be the next logical choice for the Clips if Lue is unavailable. Brown is a former NBA Coach of the Year, the same guy who helped the Cleveland Cavaliers rack up a 66-16 record. He coached the Cavs from 2005 to 2010 and then returned in 2013 before he got fired.

Brown also called the shots for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2011-12 season. He made it to the next season but was relieved after five games. He is one of the assistant coaches for the Golden State Warriors, a position he has held since joining the club during the 2016-17 season.

It appears Brown is bent on taking on a head coaching job by next season. Before the Clippers, he was also reportedly interviewed by the Indiana Pacers. So far, there is no clarity on his chances with either club.

Regardless, Brown’s possible departure from Golden State would create a void in Steve Kerr’s coaching staff. The name of Alvin Gentry has cropped up but recent reports claim that he is headed to the Sacramento Kings to act as one of Luke Walton’s deputies.

If he gets the Clippers post, Brown will have a big load on his shoulders. The Clips were eked out by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference, bungling a 1-3 series lead. That led to the firing of Rivers but there is reportedly a rift growing from within.

Brown will also have his hands full trying to utilize Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, two top stars that the Clips got last summer.
