Kristen Stewart will play Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic Spencer and she's working hard to sound like the Princess of Wales with a dialect coach. The movie will not begin filming until the middle of January 2021. However, Stewart has been preparing for this big role to get Princess Diana's speaking voice right.
The actress said that people are familiar with the voice of the People's Princess because it's "distinct and popular." Stewart admits that she's intimidated by the royal's voice because it's recognizable.
Nevertheless, Stewart said that she hasn't been excited for a part in a while. The actress shot to fame in the movie Twilight and starred as Snow White with Chris Hemsworth in the live-action version of Snow White and the Huntsman.
Spencer will focus on moments in Princess Diana's life, before she understood what it meant to be the wife of the heir to the throne. It will delve on her decision to divorce the future King of England but it will not feature her tragic death. The film's title is a reference to Diana's single life as a member of the aristocratic Spencer family.
The movie will zero in on the three days Princess Diana spent in Sandringham before she decided to end her marriage. Pablo Larrain will direct the movie and bring out Stewart's ability to depict the royal's vulnerability and strength.
But royal experts have started with the criticisms prior to the production of the film. They were hoping for a factual biopic but Spencer will likely use some dramatic license to the story.
Biographer Ingrid Seward said that Princess Diana was not in Sandringham and it was Prince Charles who decided the divorce. Seward said Diana didn't want the divorce but she knew the state of her marriage cannot continue with Charles' affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Another biographer, Penny Junor, agreed with Seward and said that Princess Diana started lashing out in the press about her marriage to Prince Charles because he decided to end their marriage. Junor recalled that the Princess of Wales didn't want the divorce and that the last three days Charles spent in Sandringham was the final straw.
Junor also recalled that those three days were supposed to be Charles' time with William and Harry but Diana decided not to bring her children to their father. It made the Prince of Wales furious because they made this plan months ago.
Royal fans are also upset with Stewart taking on the role as they feel she's not a great fit for the princess. The director, however, understands all the criticisms since Princess Diana is an icon adored by millions of people.
