It has been a long wait but it looks like the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has been given the green light. A new report confirms that the spin-off film titled Furiosa has confirmed the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy as the younger version of Charlize Theron's character. In addition to that, she will be joined by Thor: Love and Thunder actor Chris Hemsworth as well as Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Variety confirms that the Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off film is currently in active development. George Miller is reportedly preparing for pre-production although it is unclear when the prequel will begin filming. In the meantime, the casting for the movie was confirmed to include Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The details about Furiosa were not immediately revealed although it is expected to follow the character's origin story of how she ended up working for Immortan Joe. George Miller has already been confirmed to write, direct, and produce the film with producing partner Doug Mitchell. In addition to that, the Mad Max prequel is set to be produced by Miller's production company Kennedy Miller Mitchell along with Warner Bros. Pictures.

The idea of Anya Taylor-Joy taking on the role of young Furiosa in the Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off is hardly anything new. There have been previous reports that the New Mutants star met with George Miller, who has been interested in casting the actress for the role. This came shortly after Miller decided the prequel would work better with a younger actress rather than bringing in Charlize Theron and de-aging the latter for the movie.

Chris Hemsworth's casting is not a huge surprise, either. Several outlets have previously reported that the Avengers: Endgame star was being considered for a role in the Mad Max prequel. Interestingly, Variety also confirmed that Hemsworth will begin working on Thor: Love and Thunder in January next year.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the welcome surprise in the Furiosa casting. The Aquaman star is steadily making a name for himself by appearing in major hits like HBO's Watchmen series and an episode of Black Mirror. Abdul-Mateen has just finished working on the Candyman reboot and is currently filming The Matrix 4 with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa has not yet been given an official production start date. Likewise, the spin-off film has not been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
