Because of this, he did his best to reconnect with Maggie Bloom (Allison Miller), who's leaving the town. There's no clear indication that Gary is doing this because he lost Eddie for good. The situation may have just prompted him to make a better decision when it comes to his relationship with Maggie.
However, it should also be noted that the previous installment premiered with an unexpected death: Jon Dixon (Ron Livingston). A Million Little Things season 3 may do something similar, though not necessarily Eddie being dead. After all, he's one of the significant characters in the series.

We're going to find out in the premiere whether Eddie is dead or alive. He further hinted that the accident impacted Katherine and their son, Theo (Tristan Byon).
