Fans already have certain expectations when it comes to Black Widow. For instance, people suspect that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick will finally reveal what exactly happened in Budapest. Interestingly, Scarlett Johansson has just confirmed this will be tackled in the movie and that could mean that another Avenger will be joining her.

The whole Budapest incident has been a mystery since it was mentioned in the first Avengers flick. In the film, Natasha Romanoff casually mentions that the fight against the Chitauri is "just like Budapest all over again." Her companion Clint Barton then answers, "You and I remember Budapest very differently." Since then, the two characters have repeatedly made a reference to Budapest in the other Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

So what exactly happened in Budapest? Scarlett Johansson admitted that she is aware that fans are hoping this will finally be revealed in Black Widow. In an interview published in Marvel's Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book, the Avengers: Endgame star stated that everyone involved in the film "agreed that we had to find out what happened in Budapest" although it started out as "a fun little Easter egg for fans to theorize about."

"We thought that if we don't go back to Budapest and find out what really happened there, people will feel unsatisfied. I wondered what did happen there?" Johansson said. However, she was also quick to point out that it isn't the main plot of the movie.

"Black Widow is not about what happened in Budapest, but it's a huge jumping-off point for us to understand the heaviness of Natasha's burden," Johansson said.

Although fans immediately rejoiced at the idea that the whole Budapest incident will finally be shown, some were also quick to point out that Scarlett Johansson had dropped a major spoiler. After all, the only other known character involved in the Budapest thing is Clint Barton. If Black Widow will reveal what happened then, it means that Jeremy Renner is set to appear in the movie as Hawkeye.

For now, Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed whether Jeremy Renner is in Black Widow. Nevertheless, fans are already expecting to see Hawkeye in action as the whole Budapest incident is finally revealed.

Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland and features Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff. It also stars Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour. The film is currently scheduled for release on May 7, 2021.
