New Amsterdam season 3 is not coming until 2021 on NBC. The medical drama series has been on hiatus since earlier this year and viewers may have to wait a little bit longer. Despite that, fans have been getting updates about the future of characters -- such as Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman).
In a recent interview with TVLine, executive producer David Schulner noted that viewers will see more of Sharpe's storyline in New Amsterdam season 3. This is great news for those who love the character, given that she's one of the most essential parts of the story.
Schulner made it clear that fans will learn everything about Sharpe, including her home, family bombshell, and whom she's sharing the bed with. The executive producer teased that all these revelations will not only surprise the viewers -- but it'll also surprise her closest friends at the hospital.
New Amsterdam season 3 raises questions as to how Sharpe's friends know her well, and how does she really know herself. There could be huge revelations along the way that could shake up her story. It remains to be seen whether or not she'll end up with Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold).
However, their relationship might be challenged because of Dr. Cassian Shin (Daniel Dae Kim). He might be romantically involved with Sharpe, which could lead to a potential conflict between him and Max. Their situation might get awkward since the three of them are working in the same hospital.
Max and Sharpe's relationship is slowly falling apart and the latter may become more romantically involved with Shin later on. But then, this newfound romance could hugely impact the former since he's going to see the two dating on the sidelines.
Now that a new man captures Sharpe's attention, Max might feel somehow challenged. Aside from this romantic tension, he could further clash with Shin because of their different approach in the medical field. They have certain opinions and they won't agree with each other all the time.
In a separate interview with the aforementioned outlet, Schulner noted that there's still tension between Max and Shin in New Amsterdam season 3 -- even if Sharpe wasn't in the middle of everything that's happening. Both men are completely opposite, especially with philosophies about care.
Meanwhile, no official date has been set for New Amsterdam season 3, but it is slated to arrive at some point next year. The series was no longer part of the NBC Fall schedule, alongside Manifest season 3. Fans may need to wait for a while until the official announcement is made.
