Fans have been getting updates about what's coming on New Amsterdam season 3 despite the lack of official release date announcement of the medical drama. Just recently, it was confirmed that one of the major characters is leaving entering the latest installment.

In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner David Schulner said that the pandemic could play a significant part in the exit of a certain character in New Amsterdam season 3. He said that the situation will force everyone to re-evaluate their lives, and one of them will be leaving the hospital for good.

Schulner didn't reveal who among the characters is leaving in the latest installment. Yet, his statement is a confirmation that New Amsterdam Medical Center is losing one of its doctors. This could lead to more troubles and chaos, especially since the pandemic might be tackled in the new chapter.

The exit could impact Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), as well. He's been doing his best and making sure he has the right people on his side. However, losing a colleague could have a huge impact on him, the staff, as well as the hospital.

Although nothing is officially confirmed, there's already previous speculations that Jocko Sims is leaving his character of Floyd Reynolds in New Amsterdam season 3. Even before the pandemic hits, he's already considering to leave the hospital and move elsewhere.

But, even though one of the characters is leaving, the new season stores many stories for others. For instance, viewers will have a chance to learn more about Dr. Helen Sharpe. In another interview with the aforementioned outlet, Schulner shared what's coming for Freema Agyeman's character.

The showrunner said that New Amsterdam season 3 will explore everything about Sharpe, including her family, her home, and whom she's sharing the bed with. Schulner teased that these revelations won't only surprise the viewers, but her closest friends at the hospital, as well.

This would also raise questions about how her friends know her well and how she knows herself. In addition, her relationship with Max will be challenged because of Dr. Cassian Shin's (Daniel Dae Kim) presence. She might get romantically involved with the latter, leading to a conflict between two men.

Meanwhile, New Amsterdam season 3 has no official release date as of this writing. But the series is slated to come out at some point in 2021. The medical drama was no longer part of the NBC Fall schedule, which also includes Manifest season 3.
