Kate Middleton might side with her husband, Prince William, and avoid watching The Crown on Netflix, the family drama about the royal family. However, she will likely welcome the significant donation of the show's star, Olivia Colman, for her royal patronage, the East Anglia's Children's Hospices.
According to People, Colman joined the recent online auction for the benefit of Kate's special charity and put up a script of The Crown bearing her signature to raise money for sick children's medical needs. Colman, who plays the monarch Queen Elizabeth on the show, made her final appearance in the fourth season.
The Crown season 4 has stirred quite a controversy because it tackled the story of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's doomed relationship. Prince William was also depicted in the series as a toddler, who was at the center of his parents' tension during their first royal tour of Australia in the early '80s.
Colman is not the only celebrity who has donated important items for the charity auction as Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, and Cate Blanchett also sent in some prized pieces. So far, the money raised is close to $100,000, and more items from celebrities will be added over the weekend.
Kate has been a patron of the East Anglia's Children's Hospices since 2012 or a year after her marriage to Prince William. The mother of three visited the hospice center over the summer and helped the families set up a garden in honor of some of the children who have passed on.
The Duchess of Cambridge has met Colman in person during the BAFTA awards in 2019. This was months before the actress was to debut as Queen Elizabeth in the Netflix series. Kate and Colman stood side by side during the awards night after the actress won an award for playing another royal, Queen Anne, in The Favourite.
Meanwhile, Kate will miss the chance to wear a tiara in a major royal event this year due to the pandemic. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Queen's Diplomatic Corps reception will not go as planned as per government guidelines.
This annual soiree has a formal dress code with the royals expected to wear their tiara, sashes, and medals. Kate has been attending the Queen's Diplomatic Corps reception since 2013 and she has only worn a tiara 10 times as the Duchess of Cambridge.
