Batwoman season 2 has unveiled its first trailer just recently. The clip featured many big moments, with the disappearance of Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) at the center of everything. But, amidst all the chaos, Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) shows up and takes on the cape to be the next titular superhero.

In the trailer of Batwoman season 2, Kate disappeared from Gotham without a trace. The superhero went missing, leaving the people across the city in chaos. Now, most of the characters are searching for her and try to locate her whereabouts. However, evil forces make everything more difficult.

In particular, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) is causing chaos in Gotham after she found out about Kate's disappearance. The good thing is that Ryan shows up in the picture and seemingly saved the day. But then, the problem is that some believe there's only one Batwoman -- Kate Kane.

The clip shows that Ryan decided to wear the superheroes' costume -- with some alterations. The new character is ready to take down all the villainous elements surrounding Gotham. However, she has her own technique in fighting, which is completely different from Kate's.

In fact, Alice seemed to be shocked by the new version of the titular superhero. In the trailer, she can be heard saying, "the new going is going to be a handful." It remains to be seen how their dynamics will be explored in Batwoman season 2, especially since the archenemy has a twisted relationship with Kate.

Meanwhile, the trailer didn't show how Ryan's backstory will be explored. Little is known about this new superhero. She's been working as a drug-runner over the past years and living in a van with her plant. She and Kate are said to be completely different in almost all aspects, as well.

There's still a lot of questions about who she really is and what else can she do. Perhaps, Ryan's story will further be fleshed out in Batwoman season 2 once the mysteries surrounding Kate's disappearance is solved. The early run of the current installment will focus on this particular storyline.

The title of the premiere episode is "Whatever Happened To Kate Kane." A previous report from CBR noted that showrunner Caroline Dries confirmed that the second installment opener addresses Kate's whereabouts. This is going to be a big problem for her friends and the people of Gotham.

Batwoman season 2 is set to premiere on Sunday, January 17, 2021, on The CW.
