Batwoman season 2 has officially kicked off filming just recently. The series will have several changes once it returns on The CW, with Javicia Leslie's Ryan Wilder being the forefront of the story. But, in addition to the actress, there is another new face coming in the latest installment.

In a recent report from Deadline, Dominion alum Shivaani Ghai has been confirmed to have a recurring role in Batwoman season 2. She's going to play the role of Safiyah, someone who has specific ties to Alice (Rachel Skarsten). She will have a significant role in the titular character's life moving forward.

Safiyah is a fierce protective ruler of a small community on the island of Coryana. She's a woman with as many enemies as aliases. The character is described as compassionate and charismatic with both physical and psychological prowess.

Furthermore, all of her people love her dearly and they'll stop at nothing just to protect what's hers. Also, what's dangerous about Safiyah is that no one goes unnoticed by her, especially to those who have encountered the Desert Rose.

The character will be tied to a lot of stuff in Batwoman season 2. It's interesting to see how her arrival could impact other characters, given that she and Alice are somehow tied. Perhaps, she could be one of the Big Bads Ryan Wilder has to take moving forward.

Meanwhile, the new season revolves around the sudden disappearance of Kate Kane. Her whereabouts remain unknown and this will be the biggest mystery that needed to be solved. Ruby Rose played the role for just one season and announced she won't be coming back to reprise the titular character.

This is when Ryan Wilder will show up and become the forefront of Batwoman season 2. There are only a few details as to how her story will be explored, but she is completely different from Kate Kane. Leslie's character spent her years as a drug-runner, masking her pain through her bad habits.

Ryan Wilder lives in her van with her plants and she steals milk from an alley cat. She could kill someone with bare hands, making her the most dangerous type of fighter. She's highly skilled and wildly disciplined. The character is an out lesbian, fallible, athletic, raw, passionate, and not a stereotypical All-American hero.

Batwoman season 2 has no official release date at the moment, but it is slated to premiere at some point in 2021.
