Prince William could likely be unhappy that his brother, Prince Harry, used the legacy of their mother, Princess Diana, to launch their updated website for Archewell a day before New Year.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted an introductory letter on their new foundation's website, where Harry said that he is "his mother's son." The Sussexes also said that they both experienced and witnessed "compassion and kindness" from their mothers' examples.
According to royal expert Phil Damper, William "will be slightly worried" and "unhappy" about how Harry used Princess Diana's "iconic status" to promote his new charitable and commercial venture with Meghan, if his brother did not consult him beforehand. Dampier also raised the fact that Harry did not mention Prince Charles in their introductory letter when William has been trying to emulate their father's example.
The royal expert said that it "seems odd" that Harry failed to mention Charles, given their previous work together. Dampier drew conclusions that the reason might have something to do with Meghan's estranged relationship with her own father, Thomas Markle.
Royal fans also noticed the snub to fathers, with some commenting that Harry and Meghan had their fathers as their carers while growing up. Other fans said that if Meghan airbrushed her dad out of her life, then her husband had to do the same in the name of equality.
It comes as reports stated Harry's relationship with William has been "thawing" during this pandemic, despite living miles across the pond from each other. According to Daily Express, the brothers have called a "truce" and their families have sent each other Christmas presents, as well as reached out via Zoom on Christmas Day.
Royal correspondent Roya Nikkah said that William and Harry are eager to repair their damaged relationship in 2021. But while their relationship has improved, it still isn't back to how it was before their rift from two years ago.
Royal biographer Andrew Morton also confirmed that the Sussexes exchanged presents this holiday with the Cambridges and that Harry spoke with William and Charles over the holidays. Kensington Palace, however, won't comment on the statements from the royal experts.
Meanwhile, Dampier believes that there will still be awkwardness when Harry and Meghan finally face William and Kate in person in July, when the statue of Princess Diana will be unveiled at Kensington Palace. The royal expert said that the brothers will be a united front in public but there will be a lot going on behind the scenes.
