Prodigal Son season 2 will introduce a new series regular once it premieres next week on Fox. The crime-drama has been sharing a lot of updates ahead of its release, particularly in terms of casting news. Now, latest reports confirmed that Catherine Zeta-Jones is joining the rest of the cast in the new installment.

In a new report from TVLine, it was confirmed that Zeta-Jones will be a series regular in the upcoming Prodigal Son season 2. She is set to appear in the second half, playing the character of Dr. Vivian Capshaw -- the current resident MD at Claremont Psychiatrics.

Zeta-Jones' Dr. Vivian Capshaw comes into the picture after Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) has been assigned to the infirmary duty. Initially, she revels in tasking him to mop the floor and clean the bedpans. But, eventually, "The Surgeon" proved to be valuable in treating patients.

Capshaw sees Martin in a new light, which isn't a good thing. It's yet to be seen how they're going to interact, but it looks like they're going to be working together later on. Given that Zeta-Jones becomes a series regular, her character could shake up the course of the story.

Meanwhile, Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn has something to say about Zeta-Jones' arrival in Prodigal Son season 2. He said that the actress is the "perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen." He's also excited to see the two going head-to-head and bound to raise the bar set by season 1.

In addition to Zeta-Jones, two more characters are arriving in Prodigal Son season 2. Christian Borle is set to play an "extremely dangerous" character named Friar Pete. He used to be a friar but was removed from his church because of his extremist views.

Friar Pete became famous due to his "notorious killing spree." Because of this, he ended up in the psychiatric war with Martin. Now, he's going to be the key consultant in the latest case Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) has been working.

Michael Potts, on the other hand, plays Dr. Brandon Marsh. He also has an important role in Martin's storyline, particularly serving as his new therapist at Claremont. He's working hard and doing whatever it takes to have a breakthrough with his psychiatric patients.

Zeta-Jones, Friar Pete, and Dr. Brandon Marsh are tied to Martin in certain ways. The three of them will have a significant part in his story. Their arrival could also lead to uncovering more secrets about him, as well as huge revelations.

Prodigal Son season 2 will be premiering on Tuesday, January 12, on Fox.
