It has been almost three years since fans saw the 131 episodes of the first Dragon Ball Super anime series. As the waiting game continues, will Dragon Ball Super Season 2 hit the small screens soon?

If Dragon Ball Super Season 2 finally sees the light of the day, it is expected to be the biggest anime comeback in history. Everyone knows how famous this franchise is, having a lot of fans all over the world.

According to Spoiler Guy, there are rumors the second season will return in the form of Dragon Ball Super Continuation. However, TOEI Animation denied the claim.

There are several reasons why the anime is yet to be in production. Some say it has something to do with the One Piece movie, Stampede, which TOEI Animation produced.

As the franchise's anime version also continuously runs, the studio's workers were divided between working on the movie and the show. So, at the time, they were all busy working on One Piece to meet the deadlines, putting Dragon Ball Super Season 2 on the sideline.

The publication noted this seems to be a common problem in most animation studios. They take more projects than they can handle, resulting in an indefinite hiatus of some other shows.

Dragon Ball Super Season 1 ended in March 2018. After nine months, Dragon Ball Super: Broly hit the big screen and became a box office hit for the franchise.

However, this left Dragon Ball Super Season 2 in the gutter while the manga continues. So far, CBR noted there are still no words if the anime would continue or if it would still return.

There are theories the second season will drop when the manga chapters advance some more, but it seems like it is not the case at all. The anime itself is not based on the manga. In fact, it is the manga that is based on the anime.

However, with the anime's ending, the manga has "diverged" from the show's plotline. So, if the anime continues, it can now follow the manga's story.

If this happens, fans will have higher expectations on what will Dragon Ball Super Season 2 bring on the plate. Fans expect to see familiar animation, Broly's return, more innovative villains, and ultra-instinct action.

They are also looking forward to seeing Gohan's return, a callback to the past Dragon Ball sagas, the manga's continuation, a story based on the manga, and a possible game release. The expectation is still high for the anime to drop anytime soon, although it seems impossible due to the world's current state because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyhow, fans are still hoping to see it in the spring of 2021.
