Riverdale season 5 episode 4 is heading in a different direction once it arrives next week on The CW. There is a significant change for everyone as the teen drama enters the seven-year time jump. Most of them ended up elsewhere after the Graduation day, but they may reunite due to unforeseen events.
Riverdale season 5 episode 4 is titled "Purgatory," which is a reference to the changes in the town after seven years. The Core Four -- Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendez -- are living their lives as adults now.
At the moment, there's still a mystery on how the story will progress with the time jump. The CW hasn't been sharing a lot of details about it. Yet, it's apparent that new storylines will be introduced. Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica may reunite again to take on new mysteries in the town.
The synopsis of Riverdale season 5 episode 4 notes that Archie returns home after spending seven years away from the town. However, he found out that Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) now handles the area and it might be further destroyed since it's turning into a ghost town.
After meeting Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan), Archie reached out to others and asked them to come home. It seems like saving the town of Riverdale is going to be the latest focus of the Core Four. The biggest problem, however, is whether or not the gang is willing to go back home.
A lot has changed since they're now living their lives as adults. For instance, Veronica is married to her "controlling and jealous husband," Chad Gekko (Chris Mason). His appearance in Riverdale season 5 episode 4 is uncertain, but it's unlikely that he'll allow his wife to go and meet her old friends.
Jughead, on the other hand, is also in a relationship with another woman following the time jump. The name of his girlfriend is Jessica, who's described as a "train-wreck-y hipster." It is still unknown who's going to portray the character, but some speculated that it's Nina Dobrev.
Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but fans were convinced that The Vampire Diaries alum will join the series. The speculation started when the actress posted photos hanging out with some cast members. Some believed that she'll be the latest addition and will play Jughead's girlfriend.
Riverdale season 5 episode 4 is set to air on Wednesday, Feb. 10, on The CW. The episode is directed by Steve Adelson and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
