Gina Carano won't be coming back as Cara Dune once The Mandalorian season 3 arrives on Disney+. This news was recently announced, with Lucasfilm confirming that the actress will not be featured in the Star Wars universe. The decision came after a series of controversial social media posts emerged.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Lucasfilm released a statement in the wake of Carano's controversial social media posts. A representative confirmed that the actress is not employed by the company at the moment and there's no plan for her to be in The Mandalorian season 3 -- or the future.

The representative further added that Carano's social media posts "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable." Shortly after this controversy erupted, there's been an outcry for Lucasfilm to fire the actress and #FireGinaCarano trended on Twitter.

Carano made a series of controversial posts on social media, including denying the validity of the COVID-19 pandemic and expressing transphobic views. However, her recent post caught the attention of many, wherein it included an anti-Semitic post that compared the current political climate to Nazi Germany.

As of this writing, Carano hasn't yet commented regarding Lucasfilm's decision not to include her in The Mandalorian season 3. The series is set to kick off production in the coming months, and it's yet to be seen what's coming for her character of Cara Dune.

There are a lot of uncertainties about what the future holds to the character. While nothing is confirmed at the moment, there is a possibility that she will be written out in The Mandalorian season 3. There's also a chance that she'll be recast, wherein someone new arrives to fill her place.

Cara Dune first appeared in the season 1 episode "Sanctuary" and has since become one of the fan-favorites in the series. Previous reports also suggest that the character will be given her own spin-off, but that plan won't happen anymore due to the recent events.

In another report, details about the upcoming installment remain scarce until now. The official release date is yet to be revealed as production will kick off after The Book of Boba Fett spin-off wrapped up filming, which began in December 2020.

The Mandalorian season 3 is expected to begin filming when the spin-off is done. It seems like production could start at some point in 2021 -- leading to a potential premiere in 2022. Bu then, the schedule may still change considering the current health crisis.
