Hallyu actor Song Joong Ki has finally opened an official Instagram account just days before his new TV show, Vincenzo, takes off on tvN.
Song's agency confirmed that the actor has set up a personal Instagram account @hi_songjoongki, where he has shared three of his never-before-seen photos so far.
As of this writing, the account has nearly 400,000 followers as fans welcomed Song on the social media platform. Song's arrival on Instagram has been highly anticipated amid a spate of fake accounts.
It comes as Song's latest TV show, Vincenzo, with on-screen partner Jeon Yeo Bin will premiere on Feb. 20, 2021, on tvN.
Vincenzo stars Song as Vincenzo Cassano, an Italian-Korea lawyer who is also a trusted confidante of an Italian mafia. Vincenzo was adopted by an Italian family but he was forced to move back to South Korea because of a conflict.
In South Korea, Vincenzo comes across lawyers, Hong Cha Young (Jeon) and Jang Joon Woo (Ok Taecyon) and forges a partnership. The trio uses what they know about the operations and thought process of villains to take down the bad guys in court. The series also stars Kim Yeo-jin and Kwak Dong-yeon.
Song and Jeon's characters are described as anti-heroes with dangerous enemies. Prior to the premiere, tvN released five posters for Vincenzo to excite the viewers.
Writer Park Jae Bum and director Kim Hee Won said that the series explores the complex genre of the anti-hero while providing some refreshing aspects as a dark comedy. In an interview with Soompi, Bum praised Song for understanding his character accurately. Bum also said that he's been a fan of Jeon for so long that he wanted to work with her.
Kim, on the other hand, said that he is also thrilled to work with such "a group of amazing actors." There has been no break from the cast and crew as Vincenzo is still filming the last few episodes before the premiere on Feb. 20
Song's new series debut is fresh off his success for Space Sweepers, the space movie that's currently topping Netflix viewership. The actor said in an interview with The Korean Times that he's grateful to work in movie during a "dark period" in his life. Song divorced from actress Song Hye-kyo in mid-2019.
Since its launch on Netflix in early February, Space Sweepers has been the most watched movie in 28 countries. Song said that he's been receiving messages from friends abroad who congratulated him on the movie's success
Song will be working on the film, Bogota, next. The movie will take him to Colombia but production is still on hold due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions.
