South Korean boyband BTS made waves yet again after their debut performance on MTV Unplugged, where they covered the Coldplay hit song, Fix You, which was written by Chris Martin.

Immediately after BTS performed, the Fix You cover became a trending topic on Twitter that even non-ARMY fans loved the heartfelt rendition. But the biggest compliment of all came from Coldplay themselves.

The band's official Twitter account reshared the video of the Fix You cover and captioned it with just one word: "beautiful." The post also indicated nothing but love for the boys of BTS from the Coldplay band members Martin, Guy Berryman, Will Champion and Jonny Buckland.

According to Pinkvilla, before the MTV Unplugged show, BTS revealed that they will be covering Coldplay's number one hit as part of a prepared setlist. Needless to say, the ARMY has been overjoyed about the significant recognition from one of the world's most successful bands. The fans said that Martin was always protective about giving permission to his songs and having BTS perform the iconic hit was a gesture of trust and recognition for their talents.

Fix You is a song about grief and was inspired by Martin's life. Released in 2005 as part of Coldplay's X & Y album, the song has been critically acclaimed and has had different covers. It was played during the memorial service of Apple founder Steve Jobs in 2011 and it is often used as the theme song for charity concerts.

Martin once admitted that he wrote Fix You for his then-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, who lost her father, Hollywood director Bruce Paltrow, after a long illness. The singer actually used the keyboard his father-in-law gave to Gwyneth, which fans could hear in the song.

Several TV shows and movies have featured Fix You in their soundtrack. Sam Smith also covered the song 15 years since it was released.

In an interview with Billboard, BTS member Jimin said that they picked the song because it fitted so well in this pandemic period, where they haven't been able to meet their fans due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. Jimin said Fix You has been their favorite song as it gave the band so much comfort after going through a collective and personal grief in 2020. They wanted to cover the song to comfort their fans as well.

BTS's debut on MTV Unplugged became like a mini-concert as RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook also sang other songs from their hit album Dynamite. It was also like a comeback for Suga following his shoulder surgery, who said that he was happy to be performing on the stage again.
