Professional golfer Tiger Woods is recovering at home from his car accident injuries.

Woods told his fans of his condition on social media, stating he would be continuing his recovery at home.

Woods was injured after he crashed his SUV into a road sign in Rancho Palos Verdes near Los Angeles last month.

"Happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery. I am so grateful for the support and encouragement that I have received over the past few weeks," Woods said in a post on social media Wednesday.

According to a Los Angeles County affidavit, Woods crashed his Genesis SUV into a "Welcome to Rolling Hills Estates" sign, crossed a divider and uprooted a tree before coming to a stop on its side.

Police reports said that Woods sustained several lacerations to his face, multiple compound fractures and a broken right leg.

He was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles to continue his orthopedic recovery. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center chief executive Anish Majajan said Woods broke his tibia and fibula in more than two places.

Woods is considered to be one of the world's best golfers - having won 14 major championships between 1997 and 2008. Woods trails Jack Nicklaus who has 18 major championships. He is tied for first in terms of overall PGA Tour wins with Sam Snead.

Woods was embroiled in a scandal in 2009 after a car crash in Florida led to revelations of his rampant infidelity - which eventually led to his separation from his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Woods attempted to get back into the sport after a yearslong break but experienced a long list of injuries. Woods has had four back operations and spinal fusion surgery.
