This Is Us season 5 episode 12 is going in a different direction. The promo teased that Randall Pearson's (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth Pearson's (Susan Kelechi Watson) daughter, Tess (Eris Baker), gets the spotlight. The mother-and-daughter relationship, in particular, will be tested.
The clip starts with Randall asking his wife if she's okay with the idea of Tess having Alex -- their daughter's boyfriend -- over for the first time. Then, the scene shifted with Beth opening the door of the bedroom and finds the teen couple intimate with each other.
Later on, Tess told her mother that she's filled with judgment and Beth seemed to be shocked by what her daughter's said. The promo ended with the two sitting down together, with Tess telling Beth whether they will ever be close again.
This Is Us season 5 episode 12 will focus on this particular storyline as Beth has been adjusting to Tess's life as a teenager. Although she wants to become a good mother to her daughter, she's still wrapped up with the idea that everything is new to Tess.
Tess's story is being further explored, especially with the current installment. For instance, she continues rebelling on social media with her friends at school. And just recently, she told her parents that she's dating Alex, who has been her best friend for a long time.
Meanwhile, Nicky Pearson (Griffin Dune) might be returning in This Is Us season 5 episode 12. Jack Pearson's (Milo Ventimiglia) brother showed up in the previous outing to visit Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) and Madison Simons (Caitlin Thompson) and the newborn twins.
After seeing the twins for the first time, Nicky felt the love and acceptance he has never felt before. While he decided not to have his own family, his return teased that he might be staying for a while and will spend more time with the Pearsons.
As for what else is coming, Jack and Miguel Rivas (Jon Huertas) bond. It's interesting to see what stories will be fleshed out within here, given that the latter becomes Rebecca Pearson's (Mandy Moore) second husband after the former died.
