Prince Charles has called a royal summit with Prince William and the rest of the royal family this week to discuss the future of the monarchy in the next generations, especially since they have to fill more roles and redistribute the charities of Prince Philip after his death.

According to reports, Charles consulted with his mother, the queen, to undertake the royal summit believing that the remaining working royals must be clear about what they should do for the Firm. Apparently, the heir to the throne is considering whether or not the royal family should still stick with its traditional engagements of conducting more than a thousand engagements in a year. With 15 working royals, the Prince of Wales has to decide who should be taking on full-time or part-time roles moving forward.

Per The Telegraph, Prince Charles wants William to be on the same page when it comes to his decisions since his son will be inheriting everything when he's gone. The Prince of Wales wants William to be involved, especially in the major decisions that will impact the monarchy.

For now, it is understood that the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Sophie, will take charge of the majority of the patronages Philip left behind. However, the royal pair also has their current roles between them, taking on at least 555 engagements every year, thus they will not be able to fully attend to the late duke's other roles.

Meanwhile, away from the cameras, Charles has had a chance to walk and talk with his other son, Prince Harry, who quit his royal roles in 2020 with Meghan Markle. Sources, however, said that it's not known what the father and son discussed in their meeting but they did this at the grounds of Windsor Castle, while looking at the thousands of flowers and sympathy cards for the royal family.

Sources also said that Charles may have convinced Harry to extend his stay since Queen Elizabeth will turn 95 years old on Wednesday, April 21. While Her Majesty won't likely celebrate, given that she's still in mourning over Philip's death, insiders said that the royal family will take turns calling or even visiting the queen in what would be her first birthday without her husband by his side.

Reports also stated that Harry sent Prince Charles a "deeply personal" message before the funeral last Saturday to squash the tension. An insider said the Duke of Sussex was not sure how his family will welcome him when he returned to London, after living in California for over a year.
