The success of the first installment is one of the major factors Ragnarok season 2 was renewed. Shortly after season 1 hits Netflix, the streaming service confirmed the fantasy drama will continue and dropped several pictures to announce the series is coming back.

But, while the show had an early renewal, only a few details have emerged following the announcement. The good news is that the official release date has been finally confirmed after more than a year of waiting. The second installment is premiering on Thursday, May 27, on Netflix.

As for the story, Ragnarok season 2 picks up the massive cliffhanger left at the end of the first season. Magne (David Stakston) has finally fought the leader of the Jutul family, Vitar (Gísli Örn Garðarsson). It can be recalled that, after calling upon Thor's power, he summoned a huge lightning bolt.

The lightning bolt has struck the two, leaving Magne unconscious while Vidar's fate in question. If the former wakes up, he needs to fight the remaining members of the Jutul family -- which could include Fjor (Herman Tømmeraas), who's been trying to become a better person.

Right now, the Jutul family is the only giant in the series, but a few more might be arriving in Ragnarok season 2. Magne, a young warrior who's known as the incarnation of Thor, will continue to discover more about his power as he gets stronger.

Meanwhile, there are also questions surrounding the characters, such as Laurits (Jonas Strand Gravli), Magne's brother. In season 1, he has proven himself as a joker which could hint that he's the incarnation of Loki, the "trickster god". If he gains power next outing, there'll be a lot of chaos coming for everyone.

The upcoming installment might be brewing a huge conflict between Magne and Laurits, and their true heritage might be revealed. The former must be prepared as he'll encounter more giants along the way, making his adventure more intense and exciting at the same time.

Just like season 1, Ragnarok season 2 is also produced by the Danish production company SAM Productions.
