The talks about a Pixar and Studio Ghibli collaboration continue to develop. This comes after the latter posted artwork pieces on social media, featuring characters from their respective studios.

Comic Book reported that the latest material recreates the iconic scene from My Neighbor Totoro, wherein the titular character stands under the rain beside Mei and Satsuki. But, instead of the two children, the artwork features Monsters Inc.'s Mike and Sulley.

Studio Ghibli posted the piece on Twitter without any caption. It has since obtained over 163,000 likes and hundreds of comments from netizens.

The publication continued that the "crossover" artwork has led many individuals to speculate whether Pixar and Studio Ghibli are working on a collaboration project. While it would be great news for fans and supporters of the two animation studios, no confirmations have been made.

Also, both companies have yet to break their silence regarding the matter. Accordingly, no one knows why My Neighbor Totoro's creators released such material on social media. Nevertheless, netizens are seemingly hoping for a joint project between the two big names in the animation sector in the future.

Anime News Network released a similar report regarding the matter. As noted, this is not the first time Studio Ghibli posted a photo featuring characters from their and Pixar's roster.

Earlier in April, the studio tweeted a picture of Earwig from its 2020 title, Earwig and the Witch. In her line of vision, the material shows that she is looking at a framed photo of the same crossover artwork posted recently.

At that time, though, the verified account included a caption in the post. It reads, "We love Pixar" in the Japanese language.

The publication, then, recalled that former Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter of Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios is a "noted friend" of Hayao Miyazaki, director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli. Moreover, Lasseter "executive-produced" several famous films from the Japanese studio for their respective English releases in the past. These include Porco RossoPonyo, and Spirited Away.

Creative Bloq, later on, mentioned that Pixar, also, previously gave an "affectionate nod" to Studio Ghibli. As it happened, Totoro made a cameo appearance in Toy Story 3.

As seen in the movie, and reiterated in the pictures released by the publication, it shows Woody and some of the characters looking at a computer screen. Beside the monitor, Totoro is with the rest of them.
