Chicago Med season 6 episode 16 is going to be the final one for this current installment and it marks the departure of two original cast members. Previously, it was confirmed that Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta would be leaving their roles as Natalie Manning and April Sexton, respectively.

Chicago Med season 6 episode 16 is titled "I Will Come to Save You," and it'll serve as the last outing for the characters of DeVitto and DaCosta. Since this is going to be the season finale, the medical drama could offer some closure on their arcs.

At the moment, it remains uncertain on how their departure is going to look like. Yet, for Natalie, she's been facing a lot of troubles in her personal life and career as of late. She wanted to treat her mother, and in the process, she puts her job in jeopardy.

Throughout the sixth installment, Natalie's mother, Carol (Regan Rohde), has been in the hospital as she needs treatment for heart disease. It looks like the decision of DeVitto's character to leave is tied to this storyline, possibly leaving her career to take care of her.

The synopsis of Chicago Med season 6 episode 16 also notes that "Carol receives a second chance at life when a new heart becomes available." Perhaps, Natalie decided to set aside her career for the time being so she could spend more time with her mother.

Meanwhile, as for why DeVitto and DaCosta are leaving the series, it was reported that the two decided not to renew their contracts in order to pursue new roles. Their exit will likely be given a proper ending and there won't be any loose ends on their part.

Both DeVitto and DaCosta were original characters in the medical drama since it debuted back in 2015. Like other cast members, the two also appeared in other One Chicago series -- Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire. Their departure will have a huge impact on the remaining characters, as well.

As for what else is coming in Chicago Med season 6 episode 16, Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and Dean Archer (Steven Weber) face troubles with an old patient. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), on the other hand, must face the consequences of the stolen trial medication.

There is no need to worry about the future of the series because NBC already renewed season 7, alongside other One Chicago series. The medical drama may leave a huge cliffhanger this time around, given that the previous season didn't have a proper ending due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chicago Med season 6 episode 16 airs on Wednesday, May 28, on NBC.
