Queen Elizabeth II announced her wish to have Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as the Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes King in a statement released on the eve of the 70th anniversary of her accession. However, it looks like not everyone likes the monarch's desire as it seems to divide the public's opinion.

Queen Elizabeth wants Camilla to use the Queen Consort title as she continues her "loyal service." Many see this move as a sign of how her support to Prince Charles' wife has grown throughout the years. Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot in 2005.

However, some are still surprised by the announcement that royal expert Russell Myers called it a "bombshell." He even claims the move has "completely split" the people's opinion, Express noted.

The Daily Mirror royal editor graced an episode of the "Pod Save the Queen" podcast, hosted by Zoe Forsey. There, he revealed his thoughts about Her Majesty's announcement, calling it "absolutely extraordinary."

"I don't think anyone saw this coming," he said. Although rumors had it that something would happen, Myers didn't think it was all about Camilla's title.

He didn't even expect it to be officially announced on the Queen's Accession Day. He, then, cited the polls carried out by some newspapers to weigh on this issue. In the survey conducted by JL Partners for the Daily Mail, involving 1,000 adults, it was revealed that only 55% of participants supported Queen Elizabeth's decision, while 28% opposed it.

Daily Mirror also surveyed its readers and learned only 33% wanted Camilla to be Queen Consort, while 67% disagreed. Myers explained it was a huge issue that split people's opinions.

He also stressed that when Camilla and Prince Charles got married, the Palace revealed she would only be known as Princess Consort and never be Queen. However, everything seemed to change today.

So what can the Duchess of Cornwall herself say about this? People reported that Camilla was asked about her opinion about Queen Elizabeth's wish to name her Queen Consort.

In her solo outing in London and a stop at a community kitchen Nourish Hub, Camilla revealed her true feelings about her mother-in-law's announcement. "I fell very, very honored and very touched," Camilla said.

Prince Charles is currently isolated after testing positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, Camilla tested negative, but his visit to Winchester was already canceled and it might only be rescheduled in the future.
