Apple's sleek Magic Mouse is now available in a black-and-silver color scheme, along with the Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keyboard, which are all now available in a black-and-silver color theme.
The charging port on the Magic Mouse is still on the bottom, implying that Apple still believes that the easiest method to charge the mouse is to flip it over and put in a Lightning cable six and a half years later.
Although this doesn't happen very frequently - Apple claims the battery lasts approximately a month between charges - it's still a clunky design decision that feels very un-Apple.
Most rechargeable wireless mice allow you to plug them in and use them while they charge. But for some reason, Apple refuses to place a charging port anywhere other than under the Magic Mouse.
The company has demonstrated a willingness to address many of its other weird design mistakes, such as the newer Apple Pencil, which doesn't need to protrude out of a Lightning port to charge, and the new Apple TV Siri Remote, which ditched the old touchpad in favor of a scroll wheel and a clickpad.
Apple even put a couple of USB-C ports on the front and an SDXC card slot on the rear of the new Mac Studio, underscoring Apple's recent willingness to give users ports they want in apparent places. However, the Magic Mouse's charging port on the underside remains.
In tandem with the Mac Studio, Apple also released the Studio Display, a 27-inch display aimed at professionals.
The Mac Studio was unveiled on March 8 at Apple's "Peek Performance" event and is powered by Apple's new M1 Ultra chip, which is essentially two M1 Max CPUs rolled into one. It's Apple's most powerful chip by far, with 114 billion transistors and support for up to 128GB of unified RAM.
According to Apple, a Mac Studio with an M1 Ultra CPU is up to 90% faster than a Mac Pro with a 16-core Intel Xeon chip and up to 3.8x faster than the top 27-inch iMac with a 10-core processor. The Mac Studio can also be outfitted with an M1 Max processor.
The Magic Mouse costs $99, the Magic Trackpad costs $149, and the Magic Keyboard costs $199. Yes, they are all $20 more expensive than their white counterparts.
The Mac Studio starts at $1,999 for the M1 Max chip and $3,999 for the M1 Ultra chip.
You can order them all now from the Apple Store.
