In about two weeks, fans are about to witness the much-awaited comeback of Big Bang after four years. However, some doubt if the G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Daesung will still have the same popularity as they have before.
Big Bang members used to be dubbed the Kings of K-pops when they dominated the Korean music scene back in the late 2000s. However, with the likes of BTS conquering not just the K-pop world but also the international music scene, are G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang and Daesung still famous as they once were?
YG Entertainment dropped the official poster of the group's return, happening on April 5 at midnight. Though many celebrated the news, some wondered if they would still receive a warm welcome from fans as they did at their prime.
With that said, netizens had a debate on a popular online community whether the quartet's new song would be a yay or nay after being away from the limelight for years, AllKpop noted. One fan said he was curious if they would be as successful as when they dropped "Alive" back in 2012.
However, it couldn't be denied that they seemed confident with their upcoming new music. Some also said they were excited to hear their latest song, knowing Seungri was already out of it.
"I hope the new music is good," another chimed in. Despite the assumptions, many are still waiting for their return and want to hear their new music, believing their comeback will be successful.
In fact, ever since the official date of their return was announced, Big Bang started to trend on various social media platforms worldwide. It created a buzz on Weibo, known as China's biggest social media platform with 573 million active users.
They even managed to be part of the Hot Search list and an article about their return was read 220 million times within just 24 hours. In addition, they also broke QQ Music, China's biggest music service that has 284 million active users.
A post on Sohu Entertainment revealed +5,221 were looking forward to Big Bang's return, especially to G-Dragon. About 2,382 were looking forward to seeing Taeyang again, +2383 said the Kings of K-pop are back, while +2111 said it's just the right time for their return and +1265 said they remain the music powerhouse.
By the looks of it, many are still excited to see the return of Big Bang.
