In less than a week, fans are about to witness the "This Is Us" finale. After the death of Rebecca (Mandy Moore), the Pearson family will once again come together and it will be a must-see ending.
"This Is Us" finale is said to be filmed four years ago, so creator Dan Fogelman already had something in mind about how to end the series. From Rebecca's funeral to the matriarch's reunion with her late husband, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), here's what fans are about to see.
The penultimate episode answered several questions, like Kate's (Chrissy Metz) whereabouts and Deja's (La Trice Harper) pregnancy. So, the final episode doesn't have a lot of loose ends to tie up.
Instead of featuring backstories to solve the mysteries, Fogelman told Variety the "series is about what happens after." In fact, he had always planned the final episode to revolve around the epilogue of the family's continuing story instead of the moment.
While the penultimate episode is about Rebecca's passing, Fogelman explained to Deadline that the finale would feature how the Pearsons would work out through that loss. Hence, "This Is Us" finale will feature something simple, a day in the life set against Rebecca's funeral.
But if there's one thing that fans should wait and see, it's the return of Jack and Rebecca. The series will end on a happy note, seeing the soul mates reunite and merry, per UsWeekly.
Meanwhile, the previous episode also featured a different story aside from Rebecca's death. It showed how Marcus suffered a permanent leg injury from a car crash and his family's connection to the Pearsons.
The family got into a car accident the same night that Jack died. At the time, Jack went to the hospital to get coffee.
Everyone thought he was fine. He even met Marcus' father and told him the words he learned from Dr. K-and fans heard in the premiere episode-about turning the sourest lemon life gave into lemonade.
The guy shared it with his family, which was seen in flash-forwards. So thinking Jack was okay, his doctor went to see Marcus, who badly needed medical attention.
While the doctor was gone, Jack died and Marcus lived. Marcus then became Dr. Marcus Brooks when he grew up and tried his best to develop a drug for Alzheimer's disease, which was the cause of Rebecca's death.
"This Is Us" finale is set to be out on Tuesday, May 24.
