Apple has released iOS 16.0.3, an update that contains fixes for errors and bugs in earlier iOS 16 versions. This latest update brings additional performance improvements to the iPhone 14 experience as well.

Those who own an iPhone 14 series device, or even older iPhone models up to the iPhone 8 are eligible to get the latest iOS update. It is designed to address some errors that users have experienced since day one of iOS 16, including notification issues, a low volume issue related to CarPlay, and a bug causing the Mail app to crash at times.

As per Apple's release notes for iOS 16.0.3, the latest update brings bug fixes and important security updates to address several issues. Specifically:

  • A bug causing incoming call and app notifications to be delayed or not delivered on some iPhone 14 Pro models.
  • A low volume issue when calls are placed during CarPlay mode on iPhone 14 models.
  • A bug that slows down the launch times of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max's Camera app.
  • An issue that causes the Mail app to crash after receiving a malformed email.

As per MacRumors, some iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users experienced low volume levels when placing calls during CarPlay mode. Affected users said those who made calls sounded far away or even inaudible when calling.

As for the issues related to the Camera app, users said the camera would open about four to five seconds after the app was launched. Apple acknowledged this issue, as well an issue when switching camera modes, and released a fix for it.

As for the Mail app, Apple acknowledged via a security note that it crashes when a "maliciously crafted email message" is received and processed. The tech giant said this is caused by an "input validation issue," and that it has addressed the problem using "improved input validation."

The new iOS 16.0.3 update, however, does not seem to include a fix for display flickering problems previously reported by some users. Some iPhone owners who upgraded to iOS 16 said they saw flickering in dark spots on the display when the brightness is set to low. It's currently unclear if the latest update has a fix for that.

It's also currently unknown if iOS 16.0.3 will address battery life problems reported by iPhone 14 series device users, 9To5Mac noted.

All that said, the next major update, iOS 16.1, might contain fixes for these problems. Apple is expected to release iOS 16.1 alongside iPadOS 16.1 soon.
