Those who are looking for more features from iOS despite iOS 16.1's recent release will be glad to know that a new update-iOS 16.2 Beta 1-has already rolled out to developers for testing, reports say.

Shortly after releasing iOS 16.1 earlier this week, Apple also rolled out the first iOS 16.2 Beta for developers, which means a public version of the new update will become available real soon. Tom's Guide predicts that a full release of the said update should be expected to arrive before the end of the year.

Users of Apple's iOS devices can expect a slew of new features and upgrades from iOS 16.2, as seen in the beta version. Here's a quick look at what might come with the full release once it becomes public:

Freeform App

In June this year, Apple gave a preview of Freeform-an app designed to enhance teamwork. It's sort of a mobile whiteboard that allows people to brainstorm and collaborate together in real-time.

Freeform appears to have been designed for optimum performance on iPads, but it is made available for iPhones in the iOS 16.2 beta, as well as Macs running on the macOS Ventura beta.

Home App changes

Apple keeps on improving the Home app. iOS 16 gave it a redesign which made it easier to use, and iOS 16.1 added Matter, which allowed the Apple app to work with other devices particularly from Google and Amazon.

Apple plans to bring in more upgrades for the Home app, including a new architecture for iOS 16.2. The details remain unclear at the moment.

ProMotion Boost

The iOS 16.2 update is expected to expand ProMotion support so that the 120Hz displays on certain iPhones will perform better. Specifically, animated layout changes will now be done at 120Hz on these devices.

Live Activities improvements

A feature that first appeared in iOS 16.1, Live Activities gives users frequently refreshed updates for things they follow like timers, delivery statuses, sports game scores, and more. The feature is expected to be improved with iOS 16.2.

Emergency SOS Call error reporting

Apple is letting users report Emergency SOS calls that there unintentionally made with iOS 16.2. This feature, confirmed by a Twitter user who unintentionally placed an emergency call, is likely introduced to counter earlier issues with the Crash Detection feature.

So far, these are the features that can be seen in iOS 16.2 Beta 1, but Apple might introduce more ahead of the iOS version's full release. Fans are urged to stay tuned for more information as they come.
