Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have remained estranged from the royal family, but back when things were going fine, the Duchess of Sussex gifted Prince William with a punny present that he reportedly loved. The gift in question was a spoon with the words "cereal killer," given in 2017.

Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand made a claim in their 2020 controversial book "Finding Freedom," which recently resurfaced online after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix docuseries were released. So, what happened back then?

It all happened in December 2017, when the former actress and the Duke of Sussex got engaged. The "Suits" star was eager to impress her then-soon-to-be brother-in-law, thinking of what present to give him for Christmas.

The royal family has been known for exchanging "cheap gag gifts" during the festive season, so the former senior royal wanted to find the perfect Christmas gift to highlight her sense of humor. From there, she thought of a spoon with the words "cereal killer" embossed on its shallow end, and it was a hit.

Scobie and Durand wrote that Prince William was impressed by the present, and Meghan Markle made a solid impression during her first Christmas celebration with the royal family. Sadly, things turned sour, and they became estranged from each other, with the Sussexes not joining the royals' Christmas celebrations this year at Sandringham.

Meanwhile, talking about Christmas, Kate Middleton opened up about her Christmas morning during the royal family's traditional walkabout after the St Mary Magdalene Church service. She told a young royal fan that she had a "quite early start" of the day, but her morning had been "lovely" nevertheless.

Another fan asked if the Cambridge kids received a lot of nice things during the festivities, to which the Princess of Wales replied that they got "lots of lovely" stuff. A different royal wisher asked the same thing to Prince William, who made a joke about the amount of Christmas gifts his kids received.

"I asked William if Father Christmas had been for the children, and he smiled back and said, 'They've had enough presents'," a fan named Hilary Marsh, 71, from Suffolk, said, via Express.

Of course, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis received more presents during their public appearance. At one point, the youngest Wales got a toy he carried around while walking to meet the crowds with his family. Each of them, too, received a festive gnome with a long pointy red hat.
