In a significant operation against transnational crime, Chinese police, under the Ministry of Public Security, have successfully captured three leaders of a notorious telecom fraud group based in northern Myanmar. The apprehended suspects, identified as Ming Guoping, Ming Julan, and Ming Zhenzhen, were part of a criminal enterprise that has long targeted Chinese citizens.
The trio's arrest on Thursday came as a result of the China-Myanmar law enforcement cooperation agreement. These arrests follow the issuance of a wanted list by the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang province on November 12, targeting four individuals, including the still-at-large group leader, Ming Xuechang, who committed suicide for "fear of punishment as the Myanmarese side hunted him down on Wednesday night."
This criminal gang, known for its extended period of telecom fraud schemes, has not only caused significant financial harm to numerous victims but also engaged in severe violent crimes. The group's offenses include intentional homicide, intentional injury, and illegal detention. Furthermore, they notoriously used armed protection to shield their fraudulent operations, defying intensified crackdowns by law enforcement.
The Ministry of Public Security has expressed its commitment to thoroughly investigating the illegal activities of this group. They aim to ensure that strict legal penalties are enforced, reflecting the severity of the crimes committed. In addition to these legal measures, the ministry emphasized the importance of continued vigilance against telecom fraud activities, particularly in northern Myanmar. They have pledged to advance specialized law enforcement operations and intensify efforts to capture remaining key figures within these fraud groups.
The Wenzhou municipal public security bureau, recognizing the clear and sufficient evidence against these individuals, has issued a public reward for the arrest of the remaining suspects. They have also encouraged the suspects to surrender voluntarily in exchange for leniency and called upon the public to assist by reporting any relevant clues.
This operation marks a critical step in the ongoing battle against cross-border telecom fraud, a crime that has increasingly plagued both China and its neighboring regions. The apprehension of these three key suspects sends a strong message about the resolve of Chinese law enforcement to combat such criminal networks and protect the interests and safety of its citizens. As the investigation continues, the Chinese authorities remain dedicated to dismantling these illegal operations and bringing all involved to justice.
