BTS's Jungkook shone brightly as he clinched the title of 'Top Male Solo Artist of 2023,' maintaining his throne for the second consecutive year. Genius Korea, operated by the American digital music media Genius, announced its '2023 Year-End Genius Korea Chart' across various categories through its official account.
In the '2023 Top Male Soloists' category, BTS member Jungkook took the first place.
Throughout the second half of 2023, Jungkook spurred a syndrome-level popularity with a hit parade of his solo single 'Seven,' followed by '3D' and his first solo album 'GOLDEN.' This established his foothold as a leading male solo artist spearheading the 2020s and ignited a fervent 'Jungkook fever.'
Having topped the '2022 Top Male Soloists' category last year, Jungkook has proved his enduring popularity and presence by defending his crown for two years in a row. In Genius's selection of 'The Top Artists Of 2023,' Jungkook ranked 7th among global artists and 1st among K-pop artists.
The significance of Genius's year-end chart, which was compiled from November 27, 2022, to November 30, 2023, is particularly noteworthy considering Jungkook began his official solo activities around mid-July 2023.
Beyond the Genius Korea year-end roundup, recently, Jungkook and 'Seven' have been selected for the 'Billboard's Greatest Pop Stars of 2023,' 'The 100 Best Songs of 2023: Staff Picks,' and topped as the 'Global Song of the Summer for 2023' by the renowned music media Billboard. He also bagged the 'Top Global K-Pop Song' award at the '2023 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs).'
Moreover, 'Seven' has been featured in the 'The best songs and albums of 2023: Official Charts staff picks' by the UK's Official Chart and 'The 100 Best Songs of 2023' by Rolling Stone. Jungkook also made history as the first Korean solo artist to win the 'Song of Summer' category at the '2023 MTV Video Music Awards' (MTV VMA) and bagged two awards, 'Best Song' and 'Best K-Pop,' at the '2023 MTV Europe Music Awards' (MTV EMA).
Jungkook continued to make his mark by topping '2023 Artist of the Summer' and '2023 Bop Of The Year' selected by Audacy, one of the largest radio broadcasting groups in the US.
With 'Seven,' Jungkook set five new world records in 2023 alone, including achieving the fastest 1 billion streams (pre-filtered) in Spotify history. He holds the record for the most weekly streams (post-filtered) by a male artist track globally on Spotify, the fastest to achieve 100 million streams (post-filtered), the fastest K-pop solo artist to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify, and being the artist with the most number 1 hit songs (three) on the official IFPI 'MENA' chart. These achievements led to his official entry into the Guinness World Records.
As of January 6th (Korean time), 'Seven' has surpassed 1.267 billion streams on Spotify and is steadily sailing towards the milestone of 1.3 billion streams.
