Donald Trump was overheard inquiring whether the rabbi would be willing to autograph a prayer book. This prompted a backlash. At the same time, attending an event commemorating the first anniversary of the October 2023 assaults by Hamas.
On Monday, October 7, the solemn occasion transpired at the burial site of the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The brief footage shows the 78-year-old politician examining the book and inquiring, "Would you like me to sign this?"
In the comments section, a critic of X wrote, "Here lies the irony, Trump offering to autograph a prayer book like it's his latest golf course opening." A second user remarked, "Surprised he didn't bring red MAGA yarmulkes. Only $30 each, Two for $55."
Some speculated that the rabbi intended to present the prayer book to Trump rather than have him sign it. One wrote, "He’s so out of touch, not realizing it. So disrespectful!"
However, another individual referred to the former president as "such an embarrassment."
It is uncertain whether the rabbi requested that he sign the volume at the outset or if it was a gift.
Trump complained that Jewish individuals were not providing him with the same level of support as he was allegedly providing during a recent interview with Hugh Hewitt, NBC News reported.
"I think that Israel has to do one thing. They have to get smart about Trump, because they don’t back me," he lamented during a Monday appearance on The Hugh Hewitt Show. "I did more for Israel than anybody. I did more for the Jewish people than anybody. And it’s not reciprocal, as they say, not reciprocal."
Hewitt replied, "I think your numbers are rising with Jewish-Americans. They may not say it out loud, but I think they’re rising, Mr. President."
"But we should have 100 percent," Trump contended. "And I’ll never hit that, but we should have 100 percent."
This is not the first instance in which Trump has reportedly made an offensive statement about the Jewish community. As previously reported by OK! Magazine, Barbara Res, a former Vice President of the Trump Organization, claimed that he once told a startling Holocaust joke to executives during a business meeting.
"Donald was bragging among us, to our executives, we were four of us, how great the guy was. And he was a real German, and he was so neat and clean," she recounted. "Then he looked at a couple of executives who happened to be Jewish, and he said, 'You know, watch out for this guy. He sort of remembers the, the ovens,' you know, smiling."
