The argument between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate Middleton occurred before the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and when the disagreement became public, a number of accusations were made about the nature of the conflict. Spare, Prince Harry's best-selling memoir, contains his recollection of the event, which he described in detail.
During the wedding of the Sussexes, there was a disagreement about Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid outfit, and according to tabloid stories, Meghan allegedly caused Princess Kate to cry over the matter. On the other hand, Meghan said that "the reverse happened" during their historic interview with Oprah Winfrey at the beginning of 2021. She stated that Princess Kate was the one who caused her to weep prior to the wedding.
According to what Prince Harry wrote in Spare, Princess Kate phoned Meghan four days before the wedding to inform her that the gowns needed to be redone by the tailor. He stated that Meghan was unable to answer to Princess Kate's text right away because she was dealing with a large number of texts relating to the wedding as well as the "chaos" that was surrounding her father, Thomas Markle, who had to have heart surgery before to the big day, per Page Six.
Prince Harry has stated that Princess Kate expressed her dissatisfaction with Princess Charlotte's dress, stating that it was "too big, too long, and too baggy." Additionally, Prince Harry stated that Princess Charlotte "cried when she tried it on at home."
According to Prince Harry's biography, Meghan and Princess Kate allegedly had a disagreement on the outfits that should be worn by bridesmaids. It is believed that Meghan requested that the outfit worn by Princess Charlotte may be adjusted by the tailor, Ajay Mirpui, who was on standby at Kensington Palace. Meghan sent a text message to Princess Kate asking, "Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?" Princess Kate's alleged response was: "No, all the dresses need to be remade," the Express reported. The Duke explained: "So the next morning she (Meghan) texted Kate that our tailor was standing by. That wasn't sufficient."
In response to Meghan's inquiry as to whether or not Princess Kate was aware of the strain she was experiencing as a result of her father's condition, Princess Kate admitted that she was aware of it but noted that the wedding was scheduled to take place in only four days.
Meghan reportedly replied, "Yes, Kate, I know."
She then urged Princess Kate to visit the tailor, saying: "I'm not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn't fit then please take Princess Charlotte to see Ajay. He's been waiting all day". Princess Kate's reported answer was a simple: "Fine."
Meghan was "sobbing on the floor" when the Duke of Sussex returned home. Princess Kate later offered flowers, an olive branch, and an apologetic card for the mistake. Prince Harry recalled the tensions: "Emotions were running high, of course, after the stress of the last week, the last month, the last day. It was intolerable - but temporary. Princess Kate hadn't meant any harm, I told her."
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have not commented on the Sussexes' accusations in Spare, interviews, or Prince Harry & Meghan.
Mr. Mirpui told the Daily Mail that he sympathizes with everyone, considering the difficulty of having children in ill-fitting wedding clothing. He said weddings are stressful, "especially one" of this size.
He said, "I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren't fitting - it's nerve-wracking."
