It has been reported that Angelina Jolie is "exhausted" as a result of the conclusion of her protracted court struggle with her former husband, Brad Pitt, which has lasted for eight years.
According to Daily Express US, in accordance with the statements made by Jolie's legal representatives, the divorce papers were eventually signed by the former couple on Monday, December 30.
A source told People, "More than eight years ago, Jolie filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt." She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family.
"This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Jolie is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over," the source continued. "She doesn't speak ill of Pitt publicly or privately. She's been trying hard to be light after a dark time."
The initial petition to dissolve Jolie's marriage was submitted on September 19, 2016, just a few days after what seemed to be a quarrel on a private jet, during which she claimed that Pitt was violent to their children.
The authorities did not bring charges against him after conducting investigations at the time, and Jolie chose not to seek charges against him.
Four months later, the former couple issued a joint statement in which they indicated that they had reached an agreement to handle their divorce in a private venue and that they would keep future aspects of it quiet by employing a private court.
During the time leading up to the privacy agreement, Jolie and Pitt were engaged in a contentious divorce settlement that centered on issues pertaining to child custody and extensive allegations.
Over the course of the subsequent years, the now-ex-couple engaged in a contentious dispute for custody of their children as well as legal concerns with the French estate and vineyard, Chateau Miraval, which they jointly owned and operated, according to OK! Magazine.
In February of 2022, Jolie filed a lawsuit against Pitt about the sale of her share in Chateau Miraval. Jolie responded by filing a countersuit, in which she said that her former partner was "waging a vindictive war against" her.
Throughout the entirety of the year 2024, the two have continued to argue over Miraval.
When a judge in the case ordered in November that Pitt must produce records, including emails and texts, that Jolie's attorney Paul Murphy believes would substantiate her allegations of abuse against Pitt and "years of cover-up" on his behalf, Jolie was able to achieve a victory in the courtroom.
In the same month, Pitt also achieved his own success in the winery struggle, which brought the matter closer to trial by providing prospective evidence that the former marriage had a formal agreement regarding selling the winery. According to a source close to Pitt, this "demonstrates the legitimacy of his claims."
