Before finalizing her acrimonious divorce from Brad Pitt, which had been a lengthy legal struggle for eight years, Angelina Jolie pondered whether or not her "light had changed."
As the actress was describing her role as opera singer Maria Callas in an interview that was published on Monday, she told Times Radio, "You're an artist, and you go through different things in life."
"And you wonder if certain parts of you have shut down, or who you are, what you have inside of you, and if your light's dimmed, and if you have less to contribute, or if you don't know yourself..."
The actress from "Maria" proceeded by saying that being pushed once more at this stage in her life was a fantastic gift for her as an artist so that she could continue to grow. She remarked that the most valuable gift she could receive was the experience of being forced to perform an activity that made her feel frightened and left her uncertain about her capabilities.
Jolie, who is 49 years old, made her introspective remarks one week after the conclusion of her contentious divorce with Pitt, who is 61 years old. According to a close source, Jolie's children inspired her to advocate for her own treatment.
"She's been trying hard to be light after a dark time," the insider told People earlier this week. "The kids have grown up seeing that some people have so much power and privilege that their voices don't matter. Their pain doesn't count."
Over the course of these years, the children have expressed a desire for her to advocate for herself and protect herself, according to the source.
Jolie and Pitt are parents to six children: Maddox, who is 23 years old; Pax, who is 21 years old; Zahara, who is 19 years old; Shiloh, who is 18 years old; and Knox and Vivienne, who are 16 years old.
Following the couple's second wedding anniversary, the actress from "Maleficent" filed for divorce in September 2016, following allegations that Pitt perpetrated physical violence against her and two of their children while they were traveling on an airplane.
She accused the actor of choking one of their children and hitting another, as well as seizing her by the head and shaking her. Jolie submitted court paperwork containing these allegations, which Page Six was able to access.
During the years that the exes spent in court arguing over a custody agreement, Pitt was ultimately awarded joint custody of the children in the year 2021.
They have also been involved in a dispute over Chateau Miraval, their pricey French winery.
According to Page Six, last week, Pitt is "thankful to start the new year with a clean slate and a fresh start" now that the divorce has been finalized.
In addition to this, we discovered that his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, "influenced" his decision to go on with his life.
"Ines wants to have a life together with possibly children in the future without the albatross that was the eight-year War of the Roses," the source said. "She has made it known that her opinion is that life would be much more enjoyable with this settled."
Since the year 2022, Pitt and de Ramon have been in a relationship.
