Oppo has launched the Find N5, the world's thinnest foldable phone, with an added feature that allows users to wirelessly share files and remotely access Apple Mac computers. This marks a first for an internationally available Android device, offering functionality previously unavailable to users outside of China.
The Find N5 measures just 8.93mm when folded, making it slimmer than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 12.1mm. It also weighs 229 grams, positioning it among the lightest book-style foldables. Alongside its hardware advancements, Oppo is bringing new cross-platform capabilities to its ecosystem, allowing Android and macOS to integrate more seamlessly.
Oppo's O Plus Connect app enables the Find N5 to wirelessly transfer files between the phone and a Mac, a notable improvement given that Android-to-Mac file sharing has historically relied on third-party apps or cumbersome wired connections. Once the devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, users can browse the Find N5's files directly from a Mac and transfer them without needing a physical connection.
In addition to file sharing, the Find N5 introduces a remote Mac control feature, allowing users to mirror their Mac's display onto the foldable phone. Users can interact with their Mac through a virtual keyboard, a trackpad, or an on-screen mouse, making it possible to navigate macOS without needing to physically use the computer.
This feature, while promising, has some usability limitations. Early testers report that the small screen size of the phone makes macOS interaction somewhat difficult, and touch gestures are not always precise, as macOS was not designed for direct touch input. While file transfers appear to work smoothly, remote Mac control may still require refinements.
A similar remote-access feature was introduced by Vivo in April 2024, but it was limited to Vivo devices running the China-exclusive OriginOS. The Find N5 is the first foldable to offer this functionality globally, except for the U.S., where OnePlus-Oppo's sister brand-has confirmed it will not launch the phone.
Beyond its Mac compatibility, the Find N5 features an 8.1-inch main folding screen, the largest in the foldable category. It is also the most water-resistant foldable phone to date, with an IPX9 rating, surpassing competitors that typically carry IPX8 ratings.
On the camera front, the device includes a tele-macro zoom lens with a 70mm focal length and a minimum focus distance of 10cm, allowing users to capture high-detail close-up shots. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip powers the device, making it one of the fastest foldables in the Android market.
Oppo has yet to announce a global retail price, but estimates suggest a starting price of 9,999 yuan ($1,300) in China, significantly lower than Samsung's foldables, which begin at approximately $1,800. The company has also hinted that its Mac integration features may expand to additional devices, though no timeline has been provided.
