Justin Bieber issued a public apology to his wife, Hailey Bieber, on Tuesday after revealing that he once told her she would "never be on the cover of Vogue." The singer's statement, posted on Instagram, accompanied images from Hailey's May 20 Vogue cover shoot, a milestone that prompted Bieber to reflect on a heated moment from their past.
"Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight," Bieber, 31, wrote in the caption. "I told hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. Yikes I know, so mean." He admitted that the comment came during a moment when he "felt so disrespected" and was driven by a desire to "get even."
"As we mature we realize that we're not helping anything by getting even," he added. "We're honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection." Concluding the post, Bieber said, "So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn't get a vogue cover cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken."
Reaction to Bieber's post was mixed. While some fans commended him for his candor and growth, others criticized him for making a private moment public. "We all love you but this caption is hurtful as hell," one user wrote. Another added, "I would be livid if I was her... now the world knows he said those things and she still stayed."
Hailey, 28, appeared on the cover of Vogue this week and used the accompanying interview to address the challenges of motherhood and ongoing rumors about her marriage. The couple, who wed in 2018 and welcomed their son Jack Blues Bieber in August 2024, have been the subject of repeated tabloid speculation.
"Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I've ever gone through in my life, and learning a new version of myself is very difficult," Hailey said. "And to be doing that all the while going on the internet every day and people being like, 'They're getting divorced' and 'they're this' and 'they're not happy,' it is such a mindf---. I cannot even begin to explain it."
She also spoke about how Justin's experience as a public figure since adolescence has helped guide her through the pressures of fame. "I've learned so much from Justin, really," she said. "He's been doing this literally since he was a child and he has had to face the most scrutiny of any person that I know. He was like, 'Baby, trust me, I've been here before many, many times. You're not going to win. There is no winning.'"
Hailey further addressed her frustration with false narratives surrounding their relationship. "I've tried to tell my side of a story or correct a narrative or tell the truth of a lie and then they go, 'Well, she's lying.' Imagine how trapping that feels," she said. "There's a new headline every two days that makes no sense."
Despite ongoing speculation, the couple has continued to present a united front, with Hailey praising Justin in the interview for his support and presence in their growing family. In turn, Justin told Vogue, "I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I've ever done was marry Hailey."
