Kate Middleton has offered one of her most personal reflections yet on her cancer journey, revealing that the disease affected not only her own health but also Prince William, their three children and her parents during a year marked by treatment, uncertainty and recovery.

The Princess of Wales made the remarks during a visit to a cancer patient completing treatment, in comments later shared through an Instagram video released on June 4. The appearance provided a rare glimpse into a period that has largely unfolded away from public view since Kate announced her diagnosis in 2024 and subsequently stepped back from royal duties.

Speaking to a patient nearing the end of treatment, Kate emphasized that cancer's impact extends far beyond the person receiving medical care.

"I know it's as hard for the family and loved ones," she said. "I know how hard it was for the children and my parents."

The comments represent one of the clearest acknowledgments yet from the Princess about how deeply the illness affected those closest to her, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.

Kate's latest remarks come more than a year after Kensington Palace first disclosed that she was undergoing cancer treatment. While the palace has never publicly identified the specific form of cancer, officials confirmed in January 2025 that the Princess had entered remission following treatment at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Since that announcement, updates on her health have remained limited, making each public appearance closely watched by both royal observers and supporters.

When announcing her remission earlier this year, Kate expressed gratitude toward the medical team that guided her through treatment.

"I want to take the opportunity to thank The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year," she said at the time.

That reference to "the past year" underscored the length of the medical journey and highlighted how treatment became a defining feature of life for the Wales family. Palace statements have repeatedly referred to preventative chemotherapy, a treatment approach generally intended to reduce the risk of cancer returning after initial intervention.

Prince William has also spoken publicly about the challenges faced by the family. During an appearance on Heart Radio in May 2025, he described his wife as "an amazing mum, an amazing wife" and added that "literally, our family couldn't cope without her."

His comments reflected the balancing act facing the family as they attempted to maintain normality for their children while navigating a major health crisis behind palace walls.

William later discussed how he approached the situation with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Speaking in an interview with Eugene Levy in October 2025, he said, "Everyone has their own coping mechanisms for these sorts of things, and children are constantly learning and adapting."

He added that his focus had been providing "security and open communication" throughout the process.

For many observers, the Princess's latest comments resonate because they mirror the experiences of countless families confronting cancer. During a Christmas service last year, Kate acknowledged that connection directly.

"The amount of people who have written this year is extraordinary and I think cancer just really does resonate with so many families," she said.
