The Asus Zenfone 5Z is already available in select markets with updates already rolled out. There is another one set to come out, and the new patch will reportedly help enhance the performance of the device’s built-in camera.

For the benefit of those who may not yet be fully aware of the Asus Zenfone 5Z, the device will feature a 12 MP primary camera partnered with an 8 MP wide-angle camera. Aside from photos, the cameras can also reportedly record 4K videos at 60 fps. According to Phone Arena, the upcoming patch will include a lot of camera improvements – including the ability of owners to capture RAW images.

The format will allow Zenfone 5Z owners to capture all image data recorded by the sensor each time a photo is snapped. Captured images will not be compressed, resulting in higher quality photos. With higher resolution images, such also allows users to edit the images themselves without worrying about affecting the quality of each shot.

Aside from the ability to capture RAW photos, another camera-related improvement is the added support for Panorama mode. This is a standard photo mode for most Android devices, something that was curiously not included by default. According to XDA Developers, there was nothing mentioned yet on the resolution of panorama photos.

Other camera enhancements detailed on the changelog include improved sharpness, autofocus functionality, auto exposure, improved HDR, better slow motion quality, and file sizes in 720p. Users will also have the ability to switch the EIS on or off while the flash can also be used in Pro mode. For folks who intend to capture video, better audio rendering is expected since the sound quality will also be boosted to 192 kbps bitrate.

Although the patch seems filled with improvements to the Zenfone 5Z’s camera, there are also other issues that stand to be improved. This includes better WiFi stability and other bug fixes. Much of this can be read via the full changelog released by Asus. The update is already rolling out in most countries as of this writing.

Aside from the cameras, the Zenfone 5Z looms as one of the cheapest mobile phones toting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. It also sports a 6.2-inch FHD+ display and available in different RAM (4 GB, 6 GB and 8 GB) and ROM (64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB) options. Other features include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3,300 mAh battery and a phone that runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
