A lot of celebrities showed their support for elephants on its special day, the World Elephant Day, on August 12. In fact, the supermodel Kelly England Prehn visited the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand on the celebration of the majestic animal's existence. Here, she revealed that part of her health routine is taking care of animals and spending time with it.

Prehn said that caring for animals is right for your health. This could even make you more beautiful inside and out.

In an interview, via the South China Morning Post, Prehn noticed that people nowadays are keener to connect with nature. Spending time with animals is a part of this. The 37-year-old British model strongly believed that "health and beauty" come from the inside, so caring for these creatures can relax them. This could even improve their mood instantly.

"When you spend the time to form a bond of trust, love, and respect with animals, it is one of the most satisfying things you can do," she said.

Several studies revealed that just being with an animal causes the release of oxytocin or also known as the "love hormone." Pets also help calm people by regulating the stress hormone level known as cortisol. They even aid to control blood pressure.

So for people to experience this, Prehn advised everyone to visit animal sanctuaries if they don't have pets. "There are incredible animal organizations in Hong Kong that love visitors and volunteers, like Hong Kong Dog Rescue," she said.

She also suggested taking a trip to Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. In fact, one-third of the visitors here are from Hong Kong and China. "Once you get hooked on the love of animals you will always want them in your life," she added.

Meanwhile, World Elephant Day was founded by the filmmaker Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand. They aim to raise awareness of the threats and dangers African and Asian elephants face, per Express.co.uk.
