The Honor 8X has so far remained unofficial although a recent leak may alleviate all that. An official retail packaging believed to be that of the said device has come out, fueling speculations that the device could be soon coming out into the open.

Leaked photos of the Honor 8X made its rounds online, initially shared by a certain PCPOP and captioned “8X” with a circled “AI” acronym at the end. While the first, 8X, hints at the device being the much-anticipated device, the latter indicates the device possibly have artificial intelligence tied up to it. The box, in its entirety, looks very familiar and the Honor name clearly crested below.

Though still unofficial, this reveal affirms the existence of the device. Aside from the leaked photos, a new smartphone from Honor also grew after an unidentified device got a certification from Chinese telecoms regulatory agency TENAA with a valley notch design, Gizmo China added.

With the actual packaging out in the open, it remains to be seen if the specs of the Honor 8X will align with the rumors circling out in the open. Among the features of the said device reportedly include a humongous 7.12-inch (2244x1080 pixel) display with an alleged aspect-ratio of 18.7:9. The phone will measure about 177.57 x 86.24 x 8.13mm and weighs roughly 210 grams.

Inside, the Honor 8X will be powered by a yet to be known 1.8 GHz processor. It could potentially be a Kirin 710 SoC, being a mid-range device and AI-capable while others believe it could either be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 626 processor, Tech Androids said. Supporting the chipset will be 4 GB of RAM and an internal storage capacity of 128 GB (expandable through microSD).

Other features likely to come with it include a 16 MP main camera and front-facing 2 MP selfie-shooter. It will be kept up by a 4,900 mAh battery and have Android 8.1 Oreo with Huawei’s EMUI 8 custom skin out of the box.

Aside from the photos, the company also posted an image on Weibo to further fuel the device’s impending release. Though the image does not say much, the photo shows a broken ice panel over a chipset that hints at the possible integration of a cooling system similar to the Honor Note 10, GSM Arena said.

Further details on the Honor 8X (or 8S) are expected to ramp up in the coming week and most are expecting to see it officially unveiled soon. Critics have given their take on the V-notch as well as the chipset but it would still be best to wait and see once Huawei is ready to unravel its latest smartphone offering.
