The update that Samsung is going to launch a foldable handset, is not unknown to any smartphone lovers. In fact, Samsung mobile has been busy for a long time to develop the next-gen technology for making a foldable masterpiece.
Reportedly, the smartphone maker will utilize foldable OLED display panels developed by Samsung Display for the said device. A new report suggests that the smartphone maker will be selling its foldable display concept to Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Oppo and Xiaomi.
According to TECH2, Samsung Mobile CEO DJ Koh recently confirmed that a foldable smartphone is indeed under development. But he didn't spare a word on the question of how soon users will see the alleged device in the market. The foldable technology could also be seen on Samsung's long-awaited Galaxy X handset.
A report by The Inquisitr also suggested that Samsung's team of developers had a closed-door meeting to demonstrate working prototypes of the Galaxy X to the superiors of the company. But the source couldn't get the insight whether it was a foldable handset or not.
Now, a number of South Korean media giants have started to claim that Samsung is planning to sell its foldable display technology to the Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM): Oppo and Xiaomi. Another report by SAMMOBILE suggested that Samsung is planning to expand its foldable smartphone environment with partners like Oppo and Xiaomi. It also stated that a primary set of foldable display samples have already been shipped by Samsung to Oppo and Xiaomi.
Oppo reportedly began working on a foldable smartphone back in the last phase of July, this year. Xiaomi and Oppo are now heard to be testing their own foldable handsets now. Many potential sources have even suggested that Samsung would release its first ever foldable handset by the end of this year or by the first quarter of 2019. Just after that, Xiaomi and Oppo may also reveal their first foldable handsets.
As per a set of new renders, Samsung is working on three variants of Galaxy X (or possibly what would be known as Samsung F). The highest end version will be completely foldable in nature. While the mid-range model will be partially foldable at a set angle. The lowest-end or the base variant would be a completely straight model.
However, there has nothing speculated or revealed about the handset's expected features. On the other hand, no new insights about Xiaomi and Oppo's alleged foldable smartphones have been surfaced by any reliable sources.
