Microsoft has always been more innovative with its newest versions of Windows OS and their updates. The company has made storage options easily available with ts OneDrive Cloud storage in Windows 10. The next update for Windows 10 is scheduled to roll into the operating system in October this year.

A number of potential insights released from Microsoft's end which suggests that the company is looking forward to launching smarter solutions for disk free-up and clean up of temporary files.

According to arsTECHNICA, Microsoft has already evolved the option of placeholder files to enable a suitable usage of OneDrive Cloud storage. The source further noted that the placeholder holds the full-file directory o OneDrive Cloud system and keeps the track of the file stored over cloud for their usage.

This allows users to retrieve and open and mark the files kept in the cloud. Manual controls attached to the placeholders enables users to mark the files as always available offline (so they'll never be a placeholder, always a real file), and allowing their local copies to be manually removed, to free up disk space on PC.

However, the choice of files to be put on OneDrive Cloud storage is completely manual till now. It is up to the user to choose a file and place it in the cloud storage. Microsoft is reportedly going to redefine this choice with its next Windows 10 update and this attribute will be a significant part of its Storage Sense segment.

SlashGear quoted that Windows will now be able to identify the files to be kept in Cloud storage based on their usage, apart from user's choice of files to be stored  OneDrive. This will clean up a lot of disk space making the performance of Windows 10 enabled PC to be enhanced.

Technically, Storage Sense will transfer files to OneDrive if those haven't been accessed or used within the last 30 days or more. The placeholder will also work in the same manner, while keeping the temporary files in the cloud. However, Microsoft's Storage Sense will only work when there is a low disk space in the PC.

The company is reportedly opting for transparency as well as Storage Sense will sometimes ask and reconfirm about the files to be stored in OneDrive. Storage Sense will be automated as per the setting opted by the user. A user can choose to retain any files to their PC and not let it be replaced to OneDrive storage as per his will.
