Russia's Vladimir Putin told China's Xi Jinping that Kremlin and Beijing's improving relations are all based on trust, from politics to the security and defense sectors of both countries, a statement given in light of the recently-held joint China-Russia war games.
According to Reuters, the Russian head of state has expressed his optimism about the growing bilateral relations between Moscow and Beijing which, as Putin stipulated, are solely based on trust.
For Putin, the warming ties shared by the two world superpowers does not only involve the matters of trade and economics. Apparently, this confidence applies also in several areas including but not limited to politics, security, and defense.
As added by Channel News Asia, the comments from Putin were made ahead of his upcoming meeting with his Chinese counterpart. The forthcoming summit will reportedly be held in part of an economic forum which in turn will take place in Vladivostok, a city in Russia's far eastern region.
China-Russia Joint War Games
The talks will also coincide with the start of the joint China-Russia war games. This military exercise is touted to be the biggest that Russia has ever participated with since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Details about the Sino-Russo joint military exercise, which is called "Vostok" war games, revealed the extent of the activity.
According to the South China Morning Post, Vostok 2018 began on Tuesday with the goal of enhancing the counter-attacking capabilities of both armed forces as well as reinforcing each other's military ties.
The move from Beijing to participate in Russia's largest war exercise since the founding of its independent state was done as the tension between China and the United States continue to rise.
The five-day games kicked off simultaneously at five of the designated training grounds located around the Far East Russian region as well as in the maritime areas such as that of the East Sea (Sea of Japan) and the Bering Sea.
A subsequent report from the Mint Press News further revealed that the drill will see huge action consisting of 300,000 troops, close to 40,000 military vehicles, a thousand aircraft, a couple of Russian naval fleets, and the entire airborne units coming from China.
As stipulated by the media outlet, this large-scale military movement serves as a clear signal to the west and to the rest of the world the growing cooperation between the two nations.
