After months of speculations and rumors, it is finally coming to a reality. Samsung's foldable smartphone has been confirmed officially and it may see the lights of the day by the first phase of 2019. The confirmation came as a statement made by the global head of IT and Mobile Communications division of Samsung: DJ Koh.
The event was of the official launch of Samsung's mid-range handset Galaxy A9 handset which held in Kuala Lumpur where Koh dropped the hints of Samsung's alleged foldable sensation. According to SamMobile, Koh stated that Samsung's next-gen radical foldable smartphone, which has been dubbed as Galaxy F, will boast a book-like form factor and it would be more like a dual device in a single handset.
As per the source, Koh regarded it as a half smartphone and half tablet. The handset will reportedly have an internal in-display at the inner parts of the folds which will boast dual panels. Despite that, there would be an external display which would be on the top. The external display will be active when the smartphone is being folded.
Forbes quoted that as per Koh Galaxy F will be a path-breaking innovation as he further said: "Possibly when we start selling the foldable phone, it may be a niche market, but definitely, it will expand." The smartphone will come with a bendable OLED display with a 4.6-inch external panel which will be active when the smartphone is folded. Also, when the fold is open the handset will flaunt an overall 7.3-inch OLED display. Koh further pointed out that the foldable Galaxy F will be smarter than the existing and most recent handsets of Samsung.
He stated: "When we deliver a foldable phone, it has to be really meaningful to our customer," he made it clear that with the dual-capacity of a mobile as well as a tablet, the bendable handset will be capable of multitasking. While asked about the revolutionary and exclusive appearance of Galaxy F, Koh added: "If the user experience is not up to my standard, I don't want to deliver those kind of products."
The expected specifications and features lineup of the handset is still a mystery. However, it is highly speculated that Samsung will go for triple camera setup alongside Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon processor for the Galaxy F. As the concept is a brand new one, none of the potential sources has been able to constitute any idea about the handsets price range.
