Each time the name of Colin Kaepernick is mentioned, the immediate thing that comes to mind is his celebrated protest against racial injustice. Regardless, there is no denying that he has the talent to quarterback any team and such is the belief of Philadelphia Eagles Malcolm Jenkins.
Jenkins was accused of "selling out" Kaepernick recently and the 30-year-old revealed that he had the latter's back all along. In fact, he stands pat on his belief that the former NFL player deserves another shot and singled out teams who could use him. One of them was the Jacksonville Jaguars.
That said, the attention shifts on the Jaguars - particularly Blake Bortles. The 26-year-old was benched in Week 7 with Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone trying out Cody Kessler. Kessler proved effective and seemed to be deserving of the starting quarterback position, SB Nation said.
Unfortunately, Marrone feels otherwise and opted to go again with Bortles for Week 8 when the face, ironically, the Eagles who they will face in London. If he gets his act together, it could finally end the backlash being hurled against him.
One department that Bortles needs to address is to take care of the ball. No NFL player has turned the ball over more than him since he arrived back in 2014. He has 72 career interceptions, 43 fumbles, and his play in the last three weeks is the reason the Jaguars are under .500.
If Bortles continues to struggle, expect more criticism to come his way. And seeing that he will be up against Jenkins, expect the Eagles safety to speak out once more and probably mention the name of Kaepernick once again.
Right now, Kaepernick finds himself in the middle of a lawsuit against the NFL. He believes that the league is purposely keeping him out of the league due to his protest, something that has been suggested since he stopped playing back in 2016. He last suited up for the San Francisco 49ers.
As of this writing, the Jaguars find themselves third in the AFC South with a 3-4 win-loss record, tied with the Tennessee Titans. The only team ahead of them is Houston Texans (4-3), the team they previously faced and lost, 7-20.
It remains to be seen how they fare against the Eagles on Sunday although there are other factors to consider. This includes adjusting to the time zone considering London is five hours ahead, NBC Sports said.
