Should chocolate lovers don't have to feel guilty giving in with the temptation of their favorite luscious mouth-watering treats anymore? Recent study conducted says giving in to these treats accompanied with a supplement can make a person live longer... or is it?
Christian Goldsmith, Ph.D., the study's lead author, said, "The study doesn't make use of any of the polyphenols found in coffee or chocolate, so recommending that people add zinc to these would be a bit premature."
Researchers from the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg in Germany and Auburn University in Alabama recently found out how zinc can help fight oxidative stress, which according to them is the possible culprit of man's aging and short life expectancy, only if it will be accompanied by either a chocolate, non-alcoholic wine or coffee, Economic Times reported.
The results of the study show how the combination of these two can make someone healthier by creating the compound, polyphenol. Once the mineral interacts to hydroquinone, which is a type of polyphenol found in foods like wine, coffee, and chocolate, it then creates a compound similar to the "naturally-occurring superoxide dismutase enzyme (SOD)" called "mega-complex enzyme." This enzyme is said to be effective in protecting the body and combating oxidative stress.
With this findings, it is indeed very appealing to inform everyone that it is now easier to live longer. Just pop a zinc supplement with their favorite chocolate, coffee, tea or wine... and voila! You'll surely be able to reach your 100 years old birthday. But researchers aren't assuring anything as of yet.
According to them, the study is still on progress, and concluding information such as this is too premature. With regards to the future, they are still unsure what they will about to discover. But as of now, Goldsmith added, "From the work done so far, I could not guarantee that any benefit would result."
Though it is still unsure that by taking zinc supplements and eating your favorite treat can make you live longer, consuming zinc and chocolate can still give you benefits your body will surely thank you for.
Zinc is one of the lesser toxic metals, which can be used to "boost consumer's health," as posted by Independent. So taking supplements or eating foods that contain this mineral can help the body become stronger and protected from factors that can harm it. Chocolate, on the other hand, can also boost the memory and immune system if taken moderately. Also, it helps the brain and eyes become healthier.
